TOPIC: Hello from Athy

Hello from Athy 1 year, 6 months ago #143

Living in Athy and working in Dublin, I'm an occasional Joomla user who looks after a handful of straightforward sites as part of my sysadmin work. The only slightly unusual thing I've had to do with it so far is have one particular site running in ten languages; Joomfish is rather handy!

Just wondering, was Irish one of the languages?

btw: nooku the new joomla framework was originally built as some kind of multilingual platform. I don't know if it is similar in function to joomlafish, but it was built by one of the joomla lead developers.

Yes, Irish was one of the languages. They were all European languages, and Russian was the only non-Latin alphabet.

Hi Andrew, I have fairly basic skills when it comes to Joomla, I'm creating a site for a community group at the moment which was going great until they requested they want it in Irish too!! Is this a big job? Translating the actual text is no problem as I know some very speakers but do I need to reinstall Joomla again and create a seperate site in gaeilge or is there an easier way???...from Athy too by the way!

Hi Kit, I had set it up under version 1.5. If memory serves I just added the JoomFish translation package after the initial installation, then installed the base irish translation files through it. It's all one site. Through Joomfish you can add translations for menu items, articles, etc. The user will see a flag or link to switch language and it's automatic after that. For anything you don't have translated it will show the original English version by default. Does that make sense?

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for that I have installed JoomFish, how do I get the Irish installation files. I searched the JoomFish site but can't get anything for Irish?
