Hi, I'm Kevin.
I generally go by the name AsylumUtopia online and I also love Joomla!. I was introduced to it by Rob (Techbot) who helped me onto the right track when I was floundering around with CSS. I have subsequently become relatively proficient at module design and have enough familiarity with the constructs and methodologies to be able to reverse engineer and redevelop existing code.
Although, it must be said, I am lagging behind somewhat, as I haven't even taken a peek at J1.6 yet. I simply don't have the time to dedicate to it at the moment, but that situation will change in a month or two, at which point I'll be attempting to raise my Joomla skill level from moderately competent to proficient, and eventually expert. The time is approaching when I will need those skills.
I started off life as what used to be called a 'computer programmer', although I think Software Designer is far more apt - it ain't all about lines of code. I wrote my first program 28 years ago (on the ZX81) and went on over the years to become expert in AS400 / i5 analysis and software development; mainly RPG III / IV / 400 / ILE / freeform, with some Websphere knowledge, expert in BRMS, and proficient in VB / .NET, SQL, Jetform, HTML, XML. And I'm currently working for a client on a COBOL400 system.
I have designed a number of web sites, although have not yet had a Joomla! site hosted and online, as so far they've generally been designed for my own training purposes.
I also enjoy making horrible mixes that might loosely fall into the 'plunderphonics' variety. That's thanks to Techbot too, as he introduced me to the world of computer music way back before the Fruityloops days. Unlike Techbot, who has a recognisable style and skills to not only match but beat the pants off many of those who make a fortune at such endeavours, I am slightly more proficient than 'beginner'. I'm improving somewhat, insofar as I can now occasionally make a relatively decent mix, you know, the sort you might actually consider listening to more than once.
What else? Thanks to a certain unknown bloke with a poodle and a mullet, who unfortunately for him put his photo online, I am now quite proficient with Photoshop and Gimp.
I used to be a member of Toastmasters International (public speaking organisation) - delivering speeches is a daunting but very satisfying and educational pursuit. I gave it up some years ago, as the times of the meetings no longer suited, and these days when I have something to pontificate about, I just tell the internet.
So that's me. Looking forward to spending more time on Joomla, and to meeting other Joomlars(?), Joomlites? Joomla-ites? Joomies?
The Joomlish?
