A chairde,

The Joomla Irish Translation Project was re-ignited in September 09, and the 1.5.15 language files in Irish, unfinished, are available since December 09 on request from the forum
forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=78621&start=60
They have been recently updated to 1.5.18.

Why are the files not freely downloadable?
The Joomla's Translation policy advise not to release publicly some unfinished files, to avoid confusion and disappointment in the "non-community member" public.

The extension used to switch the language in the front-end is JoomFish. It's help to manage translation of the content, and of the components and modules too (but for these, the Translation Manager extension is much better because it generates the translation files to share them!)
www.joomfish.net/

We need help to translate some popular extensions, and to maintain the language files over the time. We should have the completed translation soon, from a friendly company and its client, with JoomFish and PhocaGallery extensions as well. JEvents is partially translated too.

By the way, I recognised a forum member, Garycocs, who uses the files too. How are you doing Gary ?

Any native speaker here?

Le meas,

I had to do an (extremely minimal) translation into Irish for two websites, so I probably don't have much to contribute, but could still send on what I have. Is there a source repository somewhere we can check out?

I also have an Irish flag made to match the style of the rest in Joomla

Hi Andrew,
We will be delighted to see your translation and to share the ongoing one. The flag can be useful too, and you should share it with the Joomfish team so they can integrate it in a future release.
No public repository while the files are not finished (cf. Joomla translation policy), but I send you the incomplete files. Please send yours, I will make a diff, and see.

Thanks for that, just sent you the few extra lines I have. You've quite a bit done already!

I also created a bug ticket on Joomfish to submit a few new flags, including Irish. Hopefully they'll add it in time for the next release.

Go raibh maith agat!
Well the team did it before me, I am helping a bit and coordinating efforts.
I add the few lines anyway. And if you translate a bit of some extensions, you are welcome to share!
And to be credited in the Joomla's "Translation contributors", I will use your profile full name if you agree.

There was no translation for the short word for 2 months, Sep and Oct in Irish. A suggestion is Sep=MF and Oct=DF.

Aug Lún
August Lúnasa
Sep MF
September Meán Fómhair
Oct DF
October Deireadh Fómhair
Nov Anois
November Mí na Samhna

What do you think?
BTW, languages files has been updated. You can use the same links sent in PM.
