TOPIC: Mafia Translation project

Re:Mafia Translation project 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Oh bollocks, I've been doing it arseways. It seems the kernal code of <developer mode> was missing the engage_brain function.

<shakes head in shame>

And I moan about other people not reading specifications properly.

Well, at least I've done all (or most of) the actual translating in those ones I listed, so it'll be easy enough to rip all the text strings out, create the variables in english.php and french.php, and replace the text with variable references.

I'll post my translation.ods when I'm done.

No sweat.

Since this is exactly what I went through we are all on the same page

Lisa is working on the comments in the code now. We can combine both changes next week or the week after. Then

a) we can look at the voiture(car) controller which doesn't seem to be saving records.
b) remove the map pop- up. It needs to be a normal page.
c) move the shoutbox into a module.
d) move the action page functionality to a module.

b,c and d will be done on a test server and introduced to the live server simultaneously.

Once this is done I will feel comfortable with the game to release it as an addon or whatever.

Once this is done we can begun work on stripping things down for j1.6.

If you want to do some basic research to prepare, you might investigate game systems that have been adapted from tabletop games. I believe there is an open source type system out there. Note: this is not code but the routine that a player goes through with a dice a pencil and paper.

What stats do they use? Certain stats are added together multiplied by dice roll then subtracted from the opponents arsehole diameter.

These systems have been tried and tested against balance and continuity of play over a large time under different gaming conditions and scenarios.

Utilizing one of these (supposedly existing systems) would be better than some of the extremely simple interactions currently embeded in the game.

I'm putting my effort on this on hold for a few weeks.

At present I'm writing a whole load of migration scripts to convert an in-house cms to joomla and it is taking up all my time.

The good news is I can use these skills if not the scripts themselves once I get back on track.

And since joomla 1.6 beta is out we can see how this affects future plans.

I'll keep you posted.

^ That makes me feel less guilty about having no time to spend on this recently. Soon as I do, you'll know about it (I plan to get back to it this weekend though, a few hours is all I'll need to do the bits referred to in previous posts).

How's the job going? - probably a redundant question really, seeing as you're learning useful stuff, and if it wasn't interesting, well...

Just been working on a bit of migration myself - well technically it's conversion - old COBOL system being converted to ILE so we can use all the goodies that WebSphere provides, but mainly for the debug tools which are - and there's no other way of saying this - sexy.

Also, I've done some research into suitable venues for future group meetings, I'll post my findings (when complete) in the appropriate place.
